Good music, free for every school ensemble.
Free School Music is a growing library of engraved scores for school choirs, bands, and orchestras — free to read, print, and perform. No trials, no hidden fees, no royalties.
Why we made it
Good music for school ensembles is expensive: the established houses charge per copy for parts, and some catalogs charge per performance. A director should be able to find a work, read the full score, print a part for every student, and rehearse the same week — without a purchase order. So we build the scores and give them away.
How it works
Browse the library by ensemble, voicing, and difficulty, pick a work, and read the full conductor score on the page. Print the score and every part — straight from your browser — and rehearse. There is no copy limit, no sign-up, and no fee to perform. The platform is funded by ticket sales through the School Box Office network, not by the school: when a show is ticketed, we keep a small share of each ticket, and a free concert costs nothing.
What we publish
Everything here is either our own original or engraved edition, or an engraving of a composition that is in the public domain. A musical work has two copyright layers on different clocks — the composition and the sound recording — and we host compositions only; we never host or depend on a recording. When a composition is public domain but the only edition around is a modern copyrighted one, we engrave our own edition from the public-domain score, so the result is rights-clear by construction. Original works are commissioned for school stages and we hold the rights to them. Every work is credited to its source.

Free School Music is a brand of Stanley Studios LLC. It is free to use; if you would like to support more scores you can leave a tip on the Licensing & rights page — pay what you want, never required. It is the sibling of Free School Plays, which is live today with real scripts.
